While her mother is expecting their second child, young Thi befriends club waitress Ngoc who has just moved in to tenant in their family′s house. As their friendship grows, she finds out that Ngoc is an undisclosed sex worker. Meanwhile, the story is silently observed by an art book featuring female nudes by painter Tamara de Lempicka, stolen from a bookstore.

      Hang Luong Nguyen is a writer-director from Ho Chi Minh City interested in exploring the Vietnamese female identity in global and familial contexts. Her short film, SUPERMARKET AFFAIRS, has been screened and won awards at numerous festivals. Her thesis, ROOFTOP LEMPICKA, received the 2022 Grant for Short Films from the Austin Film Society, and has screened at Filmschoolfest Munich, Osaka Asian FF, and LAAPFF. She received an MFA in Film & Media Production at the University of Texas at Austin. She is also an alumna of Locarno Open Doors Lab, EAVE Ties That Bind, and Full Circle Lab Philippines.
