OK/NOTOK is a genre-bending love story set in the very near future with a darkly comic edge. Loretta is a working-class British Asian woman who feels increasingly trapped inside her apartment. Outside, the world becomes increasingly turbulent with violence, protests, and repressive police measures. Loretta invites a new stranger, Zane, into her home and they navigate a tentative romance.
Told in a single shot, this film plays like “science fiction Mike Leigh” and is stylistically bold in its simplicity, yet enriched with depth that invites you to lean forward. The film ultimately becomes about tolerance and who we allow into our lives.
