— About VOICES —
In the turmoil of the April 3rd incident started in 1948, Jeju Island witnessed the loss of an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 lives. Countless women endured unspeakable ordeals, yet no one dared to speak out. More than several decades have since passed, with many survivors now gone, leaving a precious few to bear witness. This documentary seeks to illuminate the once-shrouded experiences of these women, led by a dedicated Jeju 4.3 researcher. It’s a journey into the stark realities they faced and a tribute to the indomitable spirit of those whose stories have remained in the shadows for too long.
