— About UNDER THE BURNING SUN —
In a bleak dystopian future, with barren lands and unforgiving deserts, abortion is outlawed. Mowanza, the victim of a violent rape resulting in pregnancy, learns of a distant land with a lenient abortion policy and embarks on a journey—armed only with a half-empty water bottle and a battered car—across the brutal terrain towards the promise of hope. Mowanza is a woman who has never had the power to choose for her own body. Trapped in pain, she embarks on a journey to seek freedom, only to find it remains just out of reach. Though her struggle may seem endless, it’s the journey itself that matters.
Winner of Slamdance 2025’s Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature.
