The lyrics are, word for word, Frank’s break-up letter to an ex. He wrote them on the Metro North to Connecticut at a breaking point in his relationship. The music video depicts how the relationship caused him to doubt his queer identity, triggering a longtime fear that people would hate the Asian queer feminine within himself. He evokes ancient East Asian traditions of publicly embodying and depicting the demon inside, in order to exorcise and dispel this fear. He hopes that he can see this “demon” in all its purity; the pain, the fear, the rejection, and ultimately its beauty.
