“Aswang” is a Filipino term for mythical evil spirits. But since Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte took office, Aswang have turned real on the streets of Manila. In Duterte’s three-year drug war, death squads have kidnapped, tortured, and shot tens of thousands of drug dealers and innocent bystanders alike. ASWANG follows the people affected by these events: a journalist making a stand, a coroner, a missionary who comforts the bereaved, and a street kid whose parents and friends have fallen victim to a regime that still enjoys support from voters.
