PATRICK TAM: REDISCOVERY OF A MAESTRO

One on One with Patrick Tam +

Patrick Tam is an enigma. A legendary figure in Hong Kong Cinema and a pioneer of the HK New Wave, the director/writer/editor is little known in the West-not helped by the fact that he's made only eight films in the past 30 years. On the occasion of the 30th AAIFF, the time is ripe to rediscover the works of the maestro. Besides writing, directing, editing and serving as production designer and art director on his own films, he has also edited the works of Johnny To and Wong Kar-Wai.

This retrospective includes rarely seen works by Hong Kong's most formal yet most experimental director. From his early innovative TV movie ("Miu Kam Fung") and seminal films of the New Wave (NOMAD, THE SWORD), to his triumphant AFTER THIS OUR EXILE, Tam has built up an oeuvre that is unclassifiable, almost always commercially unviable, yet constantly surprising and fascinating.

Join us as we pay tribute to the award-winning director and get up close with him in person at our ONE ON ONE!
